Introduction Paragraph
In the beginning of the year, in Biology, I had expectations that it might not be as interesting as I perceived it. I thought I wasn't going to enjoy this class as much as I wanted to. The last science class I had taken was in Middle School and I took Physics and Chemistry in 9th and 10th. For me, science was never something I was interested in, so having the chance to be in a Biology class was a big change, but also something I was fearing. I didn't want to have big expectations with this class, in hopes that it wouldn't go the way I wanted.
The first time I truly felt the perspective of being a scientist was during the Pig Dissection. The reason for this was because I had never had this experience of cutting open a fetal pig and observing it's organs, so it being a first time, it helped me see things as a scientist and have this new perspective. This was important to me because I knew that I would never get this chance again, and it would benefit me if I wanted to go into a career like medicine as a doctor or a surgeon. I was also able to expand my knowledge by asking questions as we did the procedure. As a scientist, you have to be prepared for the unexpected and to be able to answer/ask questions, so knowing this, I was ready. Even though, in the beginning, I was nervous, it got easier because I had other people who would help me if I was confused or I didn't know what to do.
As a scientist, I have evolved in understanding/processing new concepts well in class. I feel like this semester has definitely been difficult for me, but overall, in class I've been able to understand any concept well that has been taught, or we have to read. Especially during The Power Within, while I was doing my research, I felt really good about what I understood. Everything came kinda naturally to me and I enjoyed learning something new about the body that I didn't know before. I tend to have a natural curiosity with topics that I find interesting, so Biology is something I understand really well.
