Speak Out: Our Zine Cover(s)
As a group, we really took into consideration our critique that we were given. Everything that our peers and mentors told us about our cover, whether it was good or constructive, we took it into consideration when we edited our cover. Always trying our best to make it look professional and creative, we worked together to combine all of our topics into our Zine Cover. As you can see, in our first draft, we didn't really have a lot of creativity going. We just combined various different pictures from magazines and backgrounds to make something different. From this, we obtained critique and it got us thinking about creating a cover that incorporated our own pictures into one, and connected our topics as well. In our second draft, it's a very messy one. We just combined background pictures that Alexandra took on her camera and we wrote/combined words to create a possible title. It looked messy and when we obtained critique on this cover, we then went on to create something that combined all of our topics. In our third (and almost final) draft, we cut out pictures from magazines and printed pictures that would then come together to become our final cover. As you can see, the pictures on our cover all connect back to our different topics: Beauty Standards, Feminism, Bullying and Equality in Education. The megaphone on the cover stands for our title, which is Speak Out! The reason for this was because these topics are not easy to talk about, so we wanted to create a zine that would give everyone a safe space to talk about these topics and not feel ashamed or afraid of behind judged.
Bullying: My Advocacy Pages
For the sections of my zine, I really tried to focus on Bullying and how it could look both visually and through text. The text that I featured in my pages are from the condensed version of my essay, where I included important points and facts that I thought were a good example of my topic. I really loved the incorporation of the word search (which Alexandra came up with) because it makes our zine interactive and whoever takes one home or buys one, they are then able to do the word search and inform themselves about our topics. This topic is very important to me, and being able to get the chance to talk and express my opinions about it was something that I enjoyed and I hope to get the chance to do it again.
