Social Media / Promotion Group
During the production of the Chula Vista Zine Fest, I realized this was a lot harder to promote than I initially thought. Our group’s overall job was to use social media as a way to promote our event and invite potential artists and the community. Through this, we used Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to promote our event, which we then uploaded pictures and process videos to show others what we were working on. I realized this was a lot harder than I thought when I had to start inviting and sending out emails to promote the event. I was in charge of communicating with Media Platforms to get the word out and invite others. During this, there were a lot of situations where I called a platform and explained the project and was either: hung up on or ignored. It was difficult during this because I tried my best to invite as many people as I could and some never responded or were rude about declining my invitation. This is when I realized that this is something that needs to be done months in advance in order for the invitation to work. Our group did work well together, and I noticed this because we got along really well and we were able to communicate well together. There were instances where we got off task or we didn’t know what to do, but we would keep each other on track and always try to remain focus.
For next year, I believe the best thing to do would be to start promoting in advance. Don’t start promotion a month before, start promoting when you start the project. It’s important that you are prepared to promote and are prepared to start sending out emails as soon as possible. If you don’t send out emails within a month and a half, they might not answer. Start making calls and sending out the press release and invitations as soon as you can, and that way, you can spread the word out and be able to invite as many people as possible.
