In the Podcast Hackathon, we had to work as a group in order to finalize an Audio Diary about a character from "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian." By finding deeper themes, exploring point of views, and writing a script, I was able to look at different point of views and understand the big theme in "ATDPTI". While making the podcast, I learned that sometimes you just need to go for something even when it might not seem like the best idea.

Character-Based BrainstormFor the Podcast Hackathon, we were paired in groups of more than two, as I was paired with Sarrah and Thalia. As soon as we were paired and started working, we had all made the mistake of spending two hours reading chapters of the book where Gordy (our character) was in and it took up the time we could have used to write the first draft of the script. After the next few days, we got to work and realized if we each divided the work, we could do it evenly and finish faster. Going to Vons to record, me and Sarrah went without Thalia, since she hadn't brought her permission slip. To spend our time wisely, Sarrah helped by writing the dialogue for what we would record at Vons. It made everything easier, as we recorded, then worked on the rest of the dialogue on our way back and with Thalia back at school. Our character brainstorm helped us see which parts of the book Gordy appeared in and we were able to create dialogue based around this information.

Final Script and Audio BelowFor our final script, we were thinking of writing it as best as we could, with little inspiration. Going through the book, we were able to find little snippets of what Gordy's thoughts were, when he was in class and with Junior. From that, we expanded his wording and were able to find an easier way to create a script around the basic foundation of Gordy. In the end, with basic changes and major improvements, we were able to create a small audio diary of Gordy. Thalia voiced as Junior. Sarrah voiced as Gordy's Mom. And I voiced as Gordy himself. It was a fun experience overall and I am happy we were able to have an opportunity to explore something outside of our comfort zones.

The final podcast consisted of working through editing during lunch and recording final pieces during class.
