These are pictures of the main building (left) where we have the adult service, and the teen ministry (right). Today is day 5 of my internship with Bonita Valley Community Church. It’s been really interesting getting the chance to work with co-workers that I usually only see on Sunday’s, and it’s been incredible fun gettting to know the other side of my co-workers, the side that usually only lives in the office when they are working. During these last 5 days, the most important thing I’ve realized about being an intern is the connections that you make with others at the office. Being able to share a bond with those that you are working with is important because you are creating connections that could potentially be important to your future. Not only that, but sharing a bond also helps with being able to approach them easily and talk to them without feeling nervous or awkward. This is something that I used to struggle with a lot, especially because I get nervous talking to new people. But I’ve found that just getting to know someone is helpful and just talking to others that work with you or alongside you is helpful. This opens up doors to various situations and possible connections for your future, which is one of the reasons why I’ve opened myself up to talk to others around the office and at my internship site. I’ve enjoyed having the opportunity to work and intern at such a wonderful place, surrounded by good people that are always there if you need them. As I stated before, creating connections and bonds with others is really important, especially because those that work here already have bonds with each other, which connect them into one big family. That’s also something else that I’ve realized about interning here, is the fact that everyone treats each other like family. They talk to each other like close friends and enjoy each other’s company like a tight-knit family. Intergrating yourself into a family as close as this one is tough, but once you are in, it makes the experience x10 better, for yourself and those around you. I really hope I get to intern here again (if given the chance/opportunity) because this is a community that I deeply admire and enjoy being a part of. Not only that, but being a part of this community could help my future when it comes to choosing my major or needing references for a job. Since I volunteer as well, I also have other references from volunteering and helping on Sunday’s, that could benefit my future as well.

As a student who has been attending the High Tech High community since it’s elementary school opened, I have grown various skills that have helped me in different situations. I’ve realized that most of my skills come from what I’ve learned and how I’ve grown as a student and a teenager. One of the skills that I feel like I’ve gotten better at over the years is probably cooperation, because since I’ve been exposed to so many group projects and different projects with classmates over the years, I’ve gotten used to having to work together with other people and always having a group to rely on if I ever need anything. This is especially helpful, I think, because I am then able to apply this to any future jobs or during my internship with other co-workers that I might not know as well. I am then able to get to know them better and not feel scared about not knowing anyone because I’m so used to working with new people that it’s not going to be as hard to work with new co-workers anymore. A couple others skills I’ve been able to strengthen have been: Perspective, Public Speaking, Confidence and Compassion. Most of these are from the Habits of Heart and Mind, which I’ve known since elementary school, so I’ve been able to reflect on each one and strengthen the ones that I need to.These strengths are vey important to have if you are a part of the High Tech community, because most of these we use them everyday. From all the Presentations and exhibitions that we’ve had, I’ve been able to strengthen my public speaking skills better and practice with others. Confidence and Compassion are two that are very important to me because it’s important that we are all compassionate in any environment that we are in. If we aren’t compassionate, it can be hard to work with others when you can’t sympathize or help those around you. Confidence is also important because a person most people look up to have a lot of confidence in themselves and those around them, and everyone can see when you are confident in yourself and the environment you are in. These skills are important to me, and I’ve always used them at least once every day, and I know they will be very helpful to me during my internship. Bonita Valley Community Church, my internship, is a very tight-knit community, where everyone works together. In this community, I’ve volunteered with them for about a year, and I know how the community works. So coming into my internship, I’m already aware of what kind of skills I might need to work on in order to work efficiently in this community with my co-workers and how I might need to maybe step up sometimes and apply my skills directly into a project. I am aware of this through the hard work that they do, and the work that I do at school. By looking at the parallels, I am aware of what I need to do to become a better student and a better co-worker at my internship, and when I come back from my internship
For me, my biggest interests for my future are everywhere. I have always had an interest in Communications and Broadcasting, but I have realized that I have found new interests. I really like Theology (Biblical Studies), Writing, Criminal Justice, Neurosurgery, and Acting (earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts). All of these, I have realized, have become really interesting to me, most of them discovered throughout the years during various different situations. Either by experimenting in different classes (Biology, Humanities) or just by learning something new (Theology, Criminal Justice, Acting). My big dream, for my future, is to become successful, overall. To be able to follow my dreams and be somebody that my family would be proud of. Since my family are people that I am very fond of and I love with all my heart, I always wanted to make them proud, and make sure that everything I do, I do because I like to and because I enjoy what I do. I am not sure exactly what I want to do, but I know that I want to follow my dreams, and make my family proud. I’ve always wanted to make my family proud, no matter what I did. I wanted to show them that they raised a good daughter, one that puts her full 100% effort into everything she does. To my family, I want to be able to contribute financially. We have always had our ups and downs when it comes to money, so I want to make sure that I am able to help them like they have helped me over the years. In my life, the things that need the most work are my attitude and work schedule. I have had trouble in the past with both and I feel like I can get better if I keep working hard with it. For my internship, I feel really excited and nervous because I already know the environment and community well, but I am not sure about how they work there and how they handle things together. They already have a routine, so I want to be ready and know exactly what I want to be working on so I do not disrupt when I do not have to.
