Student vs. Social Topic

Social Topics have always been really interesting to me, always being able to research about them, learn more and expose myself to things I didn’t know before. ​

For a High Tech High Student, like myself, we’re always tasked to research about anything that we find interesting in our community, find evidence and explore the topic. So having this opportunity was really fun and interesting.
    This week, we were tasked to find a social topic that we wanted to be a spokesperson for and explain why. Not only did we have to find a social topic, but we needed to find people in the community that we advocates of this topic and find means of communication with them. We needed to find TV Series or Movies that advocated this topic as well and make a list. This presentation, after presented to the class, would be picked to work in groups and explore this topic in more detail. For me, my social topic was Bullying because I feel really passionate about this issue, and it’s something that I’ve experienced in the past and I’ve seen in media a lot. Not only have I experienced it in person, but online as well. Through being able to do research on bullying, I’ve found that it’s a lot harder than I thought. Even though it’s a very important topic that people talk about, it’s very hard to find articles that have enough evidence or websites with a lot of evidence.
    During this experience, I was able to refine the presentation various times, look for reliable websites, and find spokespeople in the community, while exploring bullying as a topic. Not only is this an example I can use as a form of refinement, but I can also use it as an outline for future presentations that I do. It helped me find credible sources and information that helped me learn more about my social topic, but it also brought some questions. How can I limit my time working on my presentation (and not over-exceed) while finishing strong? How can I make sure that my presentation is strong in content and evidence, while spending the time necessary? These questions will help me with next week for sure.
